‘Hitler‑like Rule’: JDS Slams Siddaramaiah After ASP Bharamani Seeks VRS Following Belagavi Rally Humiliation

Policemen in the state of Karnataka are reportedly giving up due to the "Hitler-like rule" of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Janata Dal (Secular) has gone to the extent of claiming that most of the police officers are giving up in frustration by going on voluntary retirement.

This is after an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Narayan Bharamani is reported to have applied to go on voluntary retirement months after being publicly humiliated by the Chief Minister.

In April this year, Siddaramaiah scolded ASP Bharamani publicly during a Congress rally at Belagavi.

At one point when Chief Minister was annoyed with a disturbance by BJP workers in the area of the stage, he convened the officer before the audience and in a fit of anger even revved-up like to slap or strike the other, successfully restrained himself.

However, the vice was being discussed on a large part of the social media platforms and was not limited to criticism by different quarters.

In a post on X, the JDS wrote, “Fed up with the Hitler-like rule of the Siddaramaiah government, police officers in the state are opting for voluntary retirement. A few days ago, CM Siddaramaiah raising his hand to hit Dharwad ASP Narayan Bharamani in a public forum became national news. Humiliated by this incident, mentally distressed and deeply hurt, ASP Narayan Bharamani has written to the government seeking voluntary retirement.”

The party also claimed that Congress-led government is insulting and humiliating the honest and competent officers instead of respecting them. “In the @INCKarnataka misrule, for honest and capable officers, ‘respect’ means insult and suspension,” the post added.

The April incident evoked a controversy, with the opposition parties charging Siddaramaiah of high-handedness and disrespect towards uniformed officers.

Bharamani was deployed in the area as the stage security during the event. Siddaramaiah then called him on the stage after the protest, asking, “You, whoever you are, come here, what were you doing?” while lifting his hand in anger.
