Heatwave to Scorch North India: Delhi to Hit 42°C, IMD Issues Alert
Records state that 12 out of the hottest years in India have occurred since 2006, whereas 2016 remains the hottest year till now.

Heatwave to Scorch North India: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), northwest India is expected to experience heatwave conditions for six days, with temperatures possibly reaching 42 degrees in Delhi.
These areas include southern Haryana, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and western Madhya Pradesh.

The IMD also remarked that throughout this time, the maximum temperature in a greater part of central and northwest India is likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.
Delhi might record maximum day temperatures near 42 degrees Celsius in some areas by April 6 or 7.
Earlier this week, the IMD had revealed that the temperatures will be above normal this year between April and June with more heatwave days in central and eastern India and in the northwestern plains.
Usually, India records about four to seven heatwave days for the period of April to June.
Those states that will likely suffer from above-normal heatwave days include Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and northern parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Some states such as Uttar Pradesh- eastern part, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha may likely see 10-11 heatwave days during this season.
Last year India saw an extremely bad summer with the maximum temperature ever recorded in the last 14 years and with 536 days of heatwave. The year 2024 also recorded the highest temperature in India and across the globe.
This year, heatwaves hit parts of India already on February 2728. The first heatwave of 2024 occurred on April 5.
Though April and May are the regular months of heatwave for India, climate change, according to scientists, is making heatwaves far more frequent and severe.
The 2022 study states the likelihood of heatwaves increasing 10-fold in the 21st century, with over 70 percent of India's land area being impacted by some of the severe heatwaves.
