‘He Made Us Proud’: Navy Officer’s Wife Bids Tearful Farewell After Pahalgam Terror Attack
Twenty-six were killed, some foreign nationals among them, and several others were injured as terrorists opened fire on them in Pahalgam; this was the worst attack in recent times in Jammu & Kashmir.

‘He Made Us Proud’: Silence engulfed the mourners while the widow of late Navy officer Vinay Narwal, Himanshi Narwal, paid her last respects to her husband, who was one of the 26 victims in the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22.

Earlier in the day, the mortal remains of Narwal had been flown from Srinagar to the capital and a wreath-laying ceremony was held before boarding for Karnal, Haryana, the hometown of Vinay.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva were among those who paid their last respects.
Inconsolable Himanshi remembered her naval officer husband as a man who lived honourably and left a legacy of courage. And the weeping woman drew strength to utter a final few words over the remains of her beloved, a blend of sorrow and admiration.
“I hope his soul rest in peace. He lived a good life. He made us really proud, and we should keep this pride in every way," a trembling voice roared the terminal, as quoted by news agency ANI.
The family members, close friends, and relatives also came to pay their last respects.
NAVY OFFICER FROM KARNAL KILLED DAYS AFTER WEDDING
Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, 26, worked in the Navy's IT department and had gotten married on April 16.
Originally from Haryana, the officer was posted in Kochi. He had joined the Navy two years ago.
Vinay left for a trip to Kashmir with his wife, Himanshi, soon after he held the wedding reception on April 19. Hence, he was in Pahalgam with his wife on the day when terrorists opened fire.
“We request that the government give such people (attackers) strict punishment and end terrorism by any means necessary," said Hawa Singh, Lieutenant Narwal’s grandfather, in a heavy voice.
Speaking to ANI, one of his neighbours, Naresh Bansal, said, “He got married four days ago. Everybody was happy. We received the information that he was killed by terrorists, and he died on the spot. He was an officer in the Navy."
“He belonged to the 36th NOC and was an IT officer. Very sad day for us," one of his colleagues said.
Earlier in the day, his grandfather, grieving over his grandson's death, appealed for the prompt action of the government in eradicating terrorism.
