Gunfire Near Israeli Embassy in Jordan: A gunman fired near the Israeli Embassy in Jordan on Sunday, a security source and state media said, and was killed and three police were injured in the incident which is over.
Police shot a gunman who had fired at a police patrol in the Rabiah area of Amman, state news agency Petra reported, citing public security, investigations ongoing.
Jordanian police had closed off an area near the heavily guarded embassy after shots were heard, witnesses said. Two witnesses said police and ambulances went to the Rabiah area where the embassy is located.

Police told residents to stay in their homes as security forces were searching for the attackers, a security source said.
The area is a hotbed for protests against Israel.
The kingdom has seen some of the biggest protests in the region as anti-Israel sentiment is running high in Arab countries over the war in Gaza which was sparked by the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
In March Jordanian riot police had to fire tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters who marched on the embassy to protest the military operation.

Israeli Ambassador Rogel Rachman has been in Israel since he left for security reasons after the October 7 massacre.
Bilateral ties, established in 1994 but already unpopular in the Hashemite Kingdom, took a further blow in 2017 after an Israeli embassy guard shot and killed two Jordanians in Amman.
Two Jordanians were killed and the Israeli security guard Ziv Moyal was injured in the embassy compound during an altercation between them. The details of the incident were disputed between Israel and Jordan.
