Google Confirms Pixel 8 to Receive AI Magic Boost with Gemini Nano Support

Google Confirms Pixel 8 to Receive AI Magic Boost with Gemini Nano Support: Google has finally revealed that Pixel 8 comes with Gemini Nano. Developer preview will bring AI to the vanilla Pixel so features like Summarise in Recorder, which can summarize a recording, and Smart Reply in Gboard, which can deliver responses based on background context, will be supercharged.
During the launch of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in India in October 2023, Google noted that the 'Pro' trim can run Gemini Nano, but the Pixel 8 can't run the large language model (LLM) due to "hardware" limitations. The company has finally conceded that Gemini Nano is coming to the Pixel 8, so it looks like they've finally listened to the press.
There were reports that the lack of RAM was the reason for not allowing the Gemini Nano for the base Pixel. It seems Google agrees. According to PhoneArena, Google said: "Running large language models on phones with different memory specs can deliver different user experiences, so we have been testing and validating this on Pixel 8. We're excited to provide the opportunity for more enthusiasts and developers to try out Gemini Nano, where we hope to get more feedback and see more innovation."
Google's VP of Engineering Seang Chau said recently in a 'Made By Google Podcast' that "Gemini Nano will also be available on Pixel 8 as a developer option".
In June, the Pixel 8 will get Gemini Nano with the Pixel Feature Drop (likely Android 14 QPR3). The Galaxy S24 series and Pixel 8 Pro can already run Gemini Nano.
