India Surpasses US to Become World's 2nd Largest 5G Mobile Market, Behind China

India Surpasses US to Become World's 2nd Largest 5G Mobile Market: Currently, the usage of 5G in India is on the rise, thanks to available pocket-friendly 5G phones in the market and when it comes to the 5G data packs they were fairly affordable and now are slightly costly not too pricey but increased in price a little.

The modern world of 5G in India has brought enhancement in high-speed data connection across the map of the country. This development has placed India among the list of the largest buyers of 5G mobiles around the globe as it underlines India’s progress in the 5G technology especially featuring a sharp increase in the shipment of 5G handsets.

This year has been impactful as our country has lately been ranked the second largest 5G mobile market globally after China leaving behind even the United States.

Global 5G handset shipments’ growth was reported to be a strong twenty per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2024 as per Counterpoint Research.

Apple took the lion's share with 25% of the market followed by Samsung with 22% of the market share and the rest all occupying the rest 53% of the market share. Samsung occupying the second place fared equally well with Galaxy A series and recently introduced S24 series.

The growth in this regard is attributed to factors such as the more affordable 5G handsets and a more higher uptake in the emerging markets. India has risen to the second position mainly because brands such as Xiaomi, Vivo and Samsung have made the market affordable with their 5G smartphones.

Investigation specialist Tarun Pathak clearly recalled that it is possible to observe the growth in specifically 5G propositions, namely extending 5G networks and making 5G devices cheaper. Further, this trend is expected to continue as 5G penetration increases especially on the lower end of the market.

This increase in 5G mobile adoption raises the global trend where emerging markets have started to adopt new technologies at a much faster pace as compared to developed markets.

The enhancement of this sector in India speaks not only concerning the advancements in the country’s technological front but also the country’s competitiveness on the global front concerning technological development.
