Fuel and Flesh: Air India Crash Site Turns Graveyard as Stench of Horror Lingers

Fuel and Flesh: Thursday's terrifying tragedy in Ahemdabad, Gujarat, saw an Air India flight destined for London crash minutes after take-off - flying into residential lodging of a medical college campus, bursting into a fireball that took the lives of all but one of the passengers aboard and some people in the hostel that was there at that time.
The Ahemdabad disaster has left the city in shock with smoldering wreckage, burned-out buildings, and the overwhelming stench of death now a side show.
Home minister Amit Shah, who visited the site of the crash at the time said the plane had only minutes before taken off with a massive 1,25,000 litres of fuel. He went on to say that due to the burning fuel, it was impossible for any passengers to survive due to the temperature.

Stench of human flesh
The nauseating smell of aviation fuel and charred human flesh lingered in the air for hours after the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off - turning a quiet medical campus into a nightmare.
Even hours after the horrible crash, and destruction of the "super jet", flickers of fire remained on top of blackened trunks of trees where the crash site was located.
The foul odor stank of disaster all the way to BJ Medical College and the neighboring civil hospital facility, where the events of this disaster were taking shape with shocking suddenness, the PTI news agency reported.
The aircraft, with 242 passengers and crew, immediately crashed into their residential quarters shortly after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport, just after 1:30 pm.
It was a massive strike - impacting three buildings including the mess hall with MBBS students who were enjoying a meal. Also nearby, two five-storey buildings with hospital staff were fully engulfed in flames, their facades crippled by the heat.
Wreckage littered the crash area on the ground: warped beams, blackened walls, mangled pieces of metal, and burnt remains of several passengers, whose identities will be confirmed through DNA identification.
A large piece off the wing was found on the course, buttressed to the ground, while the tail end was stuck in the messy hall - an image that spread quickly across social media.
Rescue efforts went on through the night with teams from Gujarat Police, fire department, and multiple emergencies, making every effort to rescue and recover bodies by digging with earth movers through the wreckage scene.
Union home minister Amit Shah, who arrived in Ahmedabad on Thursday evening, had announced. “The temperature inside the crashed Boeing 787 Dreamliner was so high that there was no chance to rescue anyone,” he said, adding, however, incredibly, one passenger did live.
Police confirmed that as of Thursday night 265 bodies were delivered to the civil hospital in the city.
