'Felt Like a 20-Minute Earthquake’: Delhi-NCR Residents Left Shaken by Sudden Dust Storm
Residents described the intense storm as having felt like an earthquake from the wind's strength.

‘Felt Like a 20-Minute Earthquake’: After the storm hit with great fury, the winds lashed the national capital and NCR with heavy rain and dust. Traffic was slowed or completely stopped in many areas, and trees appeared to be uprooted all over the capital.
Residents flocked to social media to share dramatic videos and photos, as the dust storm swept through their localities. A resident describes the storm feeling like an earthquake, with the lights and fans swaying in his home.

‘Swinging like pendulum’
"My building is literally shaking right now. 20th floor, lights swinging, crazy wind outside in Delhi NCR. Wind is so strong the whole building is shaking. Lights in my flat are swinging like a pendulum. Feels like a 20 minute earthquake. I feel like puking. Can’t even think of using the lift and go out!," he wrote.
An IndiGo passenger on the Jammu-Delhi flight claimed to share shaky videos of flight turbulence after multiple diversions. Over 15 flights were diverted on Friday evening at the Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi.
Other videos captured the sky going from light grey to pitch dark and winds blowing at high speed, pushing trees down and reducing visibility. The visuals also showcased uprooted trees falling onto cars all across the city together with bent signboards.

‘Feels like apocalypse’
The IMD weather data of wind speed showed IGI Airport reported gusts of winds at 74 kmph, with 70 kmph at Pragati Maidan and 69 kmph at Lodhi Road. Winds were measured at 37 kmph in Najafgarh, with Safdarjung at 56 kmph.
"Dust storm in Gurgaon. It looks like apocalyse," read the caption of another video shared by a NCR resident.
IMD predicts thunderstorms with rain tomorrow. The day temperature is expected to remain around 35 °C, while the night temperature is anticipated to go down to around 20 °C.
After this weekend, the IMD has declared that clear skies can be expected in Delhi-NCR for the next two days.
