ECI to Announce Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Polls 2024 Dates Today”

The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections were announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday and will be held on September 18.

ECI to Announce Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Polls: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections were announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday, which will be held on September 18 at the beginning of the three phases, and the result will be declared by October 4.

JKNC president Farooq Abdullah announced, “We had requested them (ECI) to conduct the state elections along with parliamentary elections as done in some other states. However, it was not accepted. I hope people will participate in huge numbers in these elections. A fair field should be made for all parties."

On September 18, the first phase of polling will be held, the second phase on September 25, and on October 1 the final phase will be held.

The gazette notification dates for the three phases are scheduled respectively August 20, August 29, and, September 9. For the three phases, the last dates for making nominations will be scheduled respectively August 27, September 5 and September 12.

A week after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar announced. At the time of their visit to the union territory, election commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu were present.

On Friday, Rajiv Kumar during the briefing said, “We have seen long queues of people in Jammu and Kashmir during Lok Sabha polls, which showed they want to be part of the democratic process and preferred ballot over bullet.”

Jammu and Kashmir have an equal number of men and women which are 87.09 lakh eligible voters, with the total number of polling stations will be over 11,800. Males are 44.46 lakh, females are 42.62 lakh and first-time voters are 3.71 lakh.

Of the total number of 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, there are 74 reserved for general, seven for Scheduled Castes, and nine for Scheduled Tribes.

CEC Kumar in a media briefing said, “We are committed to conducting elections at the earliest. We are confident that the people of J&K will give a befitting response to disruptive forces. No internal or external intervention will be allowed to derail the democratic process. We are fully prepared for it.”

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar says, "Lat time, Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections were held together. At that time, J&K was not a factor but this time there are 4 elections this year and 5th election immediately after this, which is to start with J&K, Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Delhi.”

“Depending on the requirement of forces, we have decided to conduct 2 elections together...The other factor is that there was heavy rainfall in Maharashtra and there are several festivals lined up too..."
