DMK Leader’s Wife Rejects PhD Certificate From Governor, Citing ‘Anti-Tamil Nadu’ Stance | Watch

A university student who passed her convocation at a university on Wednesday ignored RN Ravi, the Tamil Nadu Governor and went to collect her degree at the hands of the Vice Chancellor.
At the 32nd convocation of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University(MSU), the Governor Ravi received students lined up to get their degree. But, a single student, Jean Joseph, wanted to escape the Governor and received his degree in the arms of Vice Chancellor Chandrasekar that stood next to him.

It is said that Jean Joseph the wife of DMK Nagercoil Deputy Secretary M Rajan decided to disregard the Governor to bring forward the current matters between governor Ravi and DMK government.
During one of the videos of the ceremony, one can observe that the Governor Ravi smiles and makes gestures towards her, requesting her to stand next to him. She however passes him to get a degree from the Vice Chancellor and attempts to say what appears to be a thank you to which Ravi gives a polite nod.
Annamalai castigated what he termed as the deplorable plays enacted by the DMK members to earn fame such as utilising educational institutions to serve political interests. He requested Chief Minister MK Stalin to instruct party members not to introduce the low-level politics in schools and universities. He said unless they also act in the same way, where shall Chief Minister Stalin hide his face?

The Tamil Nadu government led DMK and Governor RN Ravi have been staring at each other in a long-running stalemate over legislative approvals.
Since November 2020 through April 2023, the state legislature has approved 13 bills but the Governor refused to release or returned ten of them without comment. Extreme cases such as building and construction, were still fine. As much as these bills were re-approved by the Assembly and no changes made, Governor Ravi acted against them, leaving them with President without his assenting to them, which was described to be unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
