Dhanteras 2024: A big and important Hindu festival, Dhanteras is on 13th day of Krishna Paksha in the Ashwin month of Hindu calendar. This year it is on Tuesday, October 29. Name ‘Dhanteras’ is a combination of two Sanskrit words, ‘Dhan’ meaning wealth and ‘Teras’ meaning 13th day. On this day people worship Lord Dhanvantari, Goddess Lakshmi and Kubera the god of wealth.

This worship is said to give good health and energy to the worshipper and prosperity. It is considered very auspicious to buy on Dhanteras but it should be done during good times. An astrologer suggests good times to shop on Dhanteras.

Popular astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal from Deoghar, in a conversation with Local 18, said that Dhanteras is observed every year on 13th day (Trayodashi) of Krishna Paksha in Kartik month. It is very good to buy something on this day as it is believed to please Goddess Lakshmi and increase wealth 13 times. It should be done during good times.

Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal says as per Rishikesh Panchang, there are three good times to buy gold, silver, jewellery, property, etc on Dhanteras.

• First good time is from 7:50 AM to 10:00 AM, Scorpio Ascendant. This is stable and very good time.
• Second good time is during Aquarius Ascendant, stable and good time, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM.
• Third and best good time is during Pradosh Kaal, from 6:36 PM to 8:32 PM. Anytime during these is very good.

Dhanteras has great historical, mythological and cultural importance. It is celebrated for three main reasons associated with mythology.

First reason is on this day Goddess Lakshmi came out from Kshira Sagar, carrying a vessel full of gold with Lord Kuber, the god of wealth. Both are worshiped during the festival.

Dhanteras has deep historical, mythological and cultural importance. Festival is celebrated for several reasons associated with mythology. One of the main reason is that on this day Goddess Lakshmi is believed to have emerged from Kshira Sagar (ocean of milk) carrying a vessel full of gold with Lord Kubera, the god of wealth. This is celebrated by worshiping both deities during the festival as their blessings are sought for wealth and prosperity in the household.

Dhanteras remains a powerful celebration of health, wealth, and fortune, and its rituals continue to hold a prominent place in Hindu culture.
