A Delhi man was allegedly duped of Rs 33,000 while trying to book a luxury spa resort in Goa through a fake website of The LaLit Hotels.

Delhi Man Tricked by Fake LaLit Hotels ‘Executive’: A Delhi man was allegedly duped of Rs 33,000 while trying to book a luxury spa resort in Goa through a fake website of The LaLit Hotels. The accused, Shahrukh Khan, who posed as the hotel chain’s executive, was arrested in Haryana’s Nuh on Wednesday, the Delhi Police said.
“The complainant alleged that he was searching online to book a room at Hotel LaLit Golf & Spa Resort, Goa. He visited a website thelalitxxlgrxxort.in. He contacted the number provided on the website, where the caller claimed to represent the LaLit Group,” Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West, said.
According to The Times of India report, Sharukh Khan, 25, created fake websites of luxury hotels to dupe people and steal their money. He was arrested in Nuh, Haryana.
The complainant was asked to deposit 50% of the booking amount as per the company policy. But the accused convinced him to pay the full amount as there was a technical glitch.
After he filed a complaint, investigators tracked the digital activity and financial trails and gathered enough evidence to arrest Khan.
To dupe his victims, Sharukh Khan created fake websites that looked like well-known luxury hotels, with convincing images, branding and attractive offers to lure users.
Police said the stolen money was routed through a merchant bank account and the fake website was set up with false information.
“Later he was manipulated into transferring the entire amount in a single payment under the pretext that split transactions were not being accepted by the system. The victim transferred the entire amount of ₹33,000 through UPI-based QR code transactions,” DCP Goel said.
“The team, led by Inspector Pravesh Kaushik, worked tirelessly to track down Khan, using technical surveillance and digital analysis to identify his location. Finally, after several raids, Khan was arrested in Mewat, Haryana, and two mobile phones used in the crime were recovered from his possession,” DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel was quoted as saying.
Investigators found that Khan was alone in running the scam but had help in creating the fake websites. His associate Naseem is absconding and police are trying to locate and arrest him.
