In an interview with The Indian express Dr. Chetna Jain, Director-Dept of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Cloudnine Group of hospitals, Gururgram said, “During this time, it’s essential that mothers receive the support and care they need—not only for their well-being but also to foster a healthy start for their babies.”
“Unfortunately, as the focus often shifts entirely to the newborn, new mothers can sometimes feel neglected or overwhelmed. Both self-care for mothers and proactive support from those around them are vital.”
This is the first and essential step most mothers especially first time mothers take. New mothers have to sleep as much as they can in order to mitigate the effects of tiredness after birth.
However, the problem is that your infant will require your attention too, right? Don’t leave sleeping to the baby alone, see that you also sleep while the baby is still sleeping. The family can assist in ensuring the mother and the child sleep in a quiet surrounding so that they can have a good sleep.
New mothers must eat good foods that have the contents of whole grains, vegetables, fruits and proteins. It will benefit them in their healing process and for the nursing mother it will also be advantageous. It is not only food that should be taken by new mothers who should ensure that they take water all the time.
It’s thus important that there must be the right environment where the mother can depend on for assistance and find time for herself as well. The new mothers should be supported by their families and friends by helping in the everyday chores in order to hasten their healing. Family and friends can make meals and they can also help to babysit the newborn especially when the mother is so exhausted.
Hence, it is important that families should have better understanding of emotional tendencies particular to new mothers. Of course, postnatal mood swings are perfectly natural but it is important that families are aware of more severe conditions including postnatal depression.
Some of the signs of postpartum depression are absence of enthusiasm for everyday activities, rejection of close ones, and shameful feelings of worthlessness. In extreme cases the mothers should go to a therapist with this problem In all these situations the mothers should find help.
