“We Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to the same family. No one can ever sever the bond of kinship between us,” Xi said in his 2025 New Year message, Xinhua News Agency reported.

"No one can block the historical momentum of the reunification of the motherland," he added.
In recent years, Xi, who is in his third five-year term, made it a major military and diplomatic initiative to step up efforts to reintegrate Taiwan with China.
On the foreign policy front, Xi reiterated China's commitment to promoting global governance reform and contributing to the maintenance of world peace and stability.

"In a world of both transformation and turbulence, China, as a responsible major country, is actively promoting global governance reform and deepening solidarity and cooperation among the Global South," he added.
Xi further called on the nation to remain confident in overcoming the challenges.
“In 2025, we will fully complete the 14th Five-Year Plan, and implement more proactive and effective policies. As always, we grow in wind and rain, and we get stronger through hard times. We must be full of confidence.”
Meanwhile, during the New Year’s Eve remarks to the nation’s top political advisory body, Xi signaled that support for the economy will continue into 2025 and reiterated a call to adopt more proactive macroeconomic policies, reported Bloomberg.

On 28th December, China’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) announced an investigation into claims about China’s efforts to influence young Taiwanese to apply for Chinese ID cards.
The investigation followed a video revealing China’s “united front” tactics to influence Taiwanese youth through organizations and small influencers.
China considers Taiwan a “breakaway province,” while Taipei has maintained its independence since 1949. The issue remains a key flashpoint as Donald Trump prepares to take office as the US president on Jan. 20.
