Security forces recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and IEDs, including one SLR. The operation, which began late Monday and continued into early Tuesday, was launched after intelligence inputs were received on January 19th regarding a significant Maoist presence in the Kularighat reserve forest of Chhattisgarh, near the Odisha border.
He said a joint team of security personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), CoBRA from Chhattisgarh and Special Operation Group (SOG) from Odisha were involved in the operation.

A day two women Maoists were killed and one CoBRA jawan was injured in the encounter during the same operation, fresh exchange of fire took place late on Monday night and early Tuesday morning in a forest under the Mainpur police station area along the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border, officials cited in a news agency PTI report said, adding that 12 more Maoists were killed.
“The Maoists attacked us with an automatic weapon and barrel grenade launchers (BGLs). They had planted four IEDs, which we detected and defused. We have found the automatic weapon. Our jawans are returning,” Gariaband SP Nikhil Rakhecha told The Indian Express.

Speaking to the media about the major encounter of this year against the Maoists in Chhattisgarh, Dy CM Arun Sao said, “Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that we will make the nation Naxal-free by 31st March 2026. Our security forces are also bravely working in this direction. They are succeeding constantly. I extend my greetings to the security forces for their achievement in Gariaband. Ending Naxalism is essential for the development of the state…”
