CBI Raids Mahua Moitra's Residence in Cash for Query Case: Latest Updates

CBI Raids Mahua Moitra's Residence: Mahua Moitra's residence was raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday in connection with the cash for query case.
The CBI has also conducted raids at other locations in Kolkata, following the anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal's directive to file an FIR against the former TMC MP.
The teams of the central investigation agency reached Moitra's residence, informed about the proceedings, and began searching.
A preliminary inquiry into allegations made against Moitra by BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey led to Lokpal's directives.
In six months, the Lokpal directed the CBI to investigate all aspects of the complaints against her.
According to the Lokpal bench, which is composed of Justice Abhilasha Kumari (judicial member) and members Archana Ramasundaram and Mahender Singh, “allegations levelled against the RPS (Respondent Public Servant), most of which are supported by cogent evidence, are extremely serious in nature, especially in view of the position held by her.”
“Therefore, in our considered opinion, a deeper probe is required to establish the truth. This is vital in view of the position and status held by the RPS at the relevant point of time,” it further read.
Accordingly, it said, “We require the CBI, pursuant to Section 20(3)(a), to investigate the allegations made in the complaint and to submit a copy of the Investigation Report within six months of receiving this order. Periodical reports regarding the investigation's progress will also be filed by the CBI every month.”
Mahua, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha in December last year for alleged "unethical conduct," is currently fighting her expulsion in the Supreme Court. Although she has faced controversy, she is set to run for the TMC as Krishnanagar Lok Sabha candidate in the upcoming elections.
Mahua was accused of soliciting cash and gifts from Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for criticizing industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha.
Moitra was also accused of compromising national security for personal gain by the BJP MP.
Moitra had denied any wrongdoing and claimed that she was targeted because she questioned the Adani group's deals.
