A record set beneath the decompression zone
The team chose the site of Hydro Atlantic since it is beyond the decompression zone, which means that it presented some unique challenges to them. Photographer Steven Haining, who had broken this record twice before, took back his title.
For June 2021 and September 2023, he had shot at depths of 21 feet (6.4 meters) and 30 meters (98.4 feet), respectively. However, this record was broken in December 2023 when fellow Canadians Kim Bruneau and Pia Oyarzun had a photoshoot at 131 feet (39.9 meters) deep in the Bahamas. Wishing to reclaim the title, Steven Haining and his team set sail for this exceptional underwater adventure.
Rigorous preparation for a daring dive
Haining's team trained extensively together with model Ciara Antowski to ensure safety and effectiveness at such depths. Antowski modeled without an oxygen tank, challenge enough, in a long white gown and black boots.

The shoot, planned for 20 minutes, was cut short to just 15 minutes because of the risks of narcosis, which is brought by high-pressure environments. The team was grappling with issues that involved rust from the wreck of the ship, the presence of sharks, interference from fishermen, and ensuring safety to Antowski under the waters.
Haining gave snippets of the record-breaking work via Instagram, where he recounted how he and his team saw two sharks during the dive for reconnaissance.
Sharks and stunning shots
Talking about this accomplishment, he said, "We practised more than planned and arrived in good weather. After scouting the wreck, we knew exactly what to do, and everything was perfectly set," to Guinness World Record.
