Buddha Purnima is an important event all over India and is marked as a state holiday. So, Banks in many states will be closed on Buddha Purnima, which falls on Thursday, May 23, as per the Reserve Bank notice.
As per the notice, some banks will be closed for four days straight as after Buddha Purnima, there is the Nazrul Jayanti holiday followed by Saturday and Sunday.

In these states, banks will be closed for Buddha Punmima:
- Tripura
- Arunachal Pradesh
- Maharashtra
- Mizoram
- Jammu
- Bengal
- Uttar Pradesh
- Uttarakhand
- Madhya Pradesh
- Chandigarh
- Srinagar
- New Delhi
- Himachal Pradesh
- Chhattisgarh
- Jharkhand
Banks will be closed for four straight days in these states:
- Tripura
- Orissa.
Although, online services such as online banking and other bank-related work can be done through the bank's official website.
Hindustan Times reported, that banks will be closed in the following cities are closed: Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, and Srinagar.

On the day of Buddha Purnima, devotees worship the figure of Buddha by offering prayers, flowers, and Agarbatti. Devotees should visit the temples for blessings from Lord Buddha and also take part in many cultural activities.
The festival day is celebrated by the preparation of a sweet dish called 'Kheer' made from rice and milk. In some parts of South and Southeast Asia, the festival falls on the same day as Vesak, a holiday that honors Buddha's wisdom.
