Bengaluru Brothers Shift Entire House 100 Ft to Preserve Late Father’s Legacy, Honor Mother’s Memories

Bengaluru Brothers Shift Entire House 100 Ft to Preserve Late Father’s Legacy: In what may be termed a very rare receptive ambition, and in heartfelt tribute to their late father and commitment in love for mother for all things home, two brothers from Thubarahalli Palya in East Bengaluru are undertaking the task of constructing a new two-storey building by relocating it at least 100 feet. Thus, the much-awaited eternal memory of father is kept aside for two brothers, according to the Times of India report, and addresses a long-standing flooding issue.

A home rooted in memories

Devaraj and his younger brother Y. Vasu decided to move their house after suffering repeated waterlogging from Thubarahalli Lake overflowing and poor drainage systems.

“We have a 10-gunta plot just 100 metres away, and we wanted to move the house there to honour our father’s legacy and our mother’s deep emotional connection to the home,” Devaraj told TOI.

The repositioning, which kicks off on Wednesday, is expected to continue for about 25 days. The brothers have set aside Rs 10 lakh for shifting work and an additional Rs 5 lakh for renovation.

A mother’s unbreakable bond with her home

Initially, the family was living in a small sheet house on this land before the three-storey structure was constructed in 2002. This cost about Rs 11 lakh, which their father, Yellappa, had termed as his dream house.

"I had my children here; they grew up in this house," said Shanthamma, their 70-year-old mother. "When my sons first suggested demolishing it to build a new one, I was heartbroken. This home is filled with memories of my husband, and I couldn’t bear to see it torn down."

Understanding the attachment of their mother, the brothers promised to shift the whole house instead of demolishing it.

How the house is being moved

The very complicated job of house shifting would be done by Shri Ram Building Lifting (Atham Ram and Sons).

Vikas Rana, the company’s managing director, explained the process: "We use special techniques to ensure that not a single window, door, or wall is damaged. Around 200 iron jacks, 125 iron rollers, and seven main jacks are being used to shift Yellappa's house."

Right now, it has been relocated by 15 feet. For the next 30 days, it will be slowly and incrementally moved the other 85 feet to its new foundation place.
