Bangladesh Quota Protests: Curfew Imposed, Army Deployed, 105 Killed

Bangladesh Quota Protests: Furthermore, the news agency, AFP reported that this conflict between the police and the students caused a total of 101 deaths till now

Bangladesh Quota Protests

Students protest against quota system in Bangladesh: The Bangladesh government has imposed a curfew across the country because of the terrific massacre over the Country. The government has also directed the military to take action to keep things calm after continuous deadly fighting.

Hindustan Times reported that the curfew was imposed by Obaidul Quader who is the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges of Bangladesh and also the secretary of the Awami League party.

He said that the curfew was necessary to keep the civilians protected from the fighting.

On Saturday, the External Affairs Ministry in a notice said, “Thus far, 778 Indian students have returned to India through various land ports. In addition, around 200 students have returned home by regular flight services through Dhaka and Chittagong airports.”

“The High Commission of India in Dhaka and our Assistant High Commissions are in regular touch with more than 4000 students remaining in various universities in Bangladesh and are providing necessary assistance.”

“Students from Nepal and Bhutan have also been assisted with their crossing into India on request.”

The notice further reads, “The High Commission and Assistant High Commissions are in regular touch with Bangladesh authorities to ensure safety and security of Indian nationals and students.”

“Security escorts have also been arranged, where necessary, for their travel by road during repatriation through select land ports. The High Commission in Dhaka is also coordinating with civil aviation authorities of Bangladesh and commercial airlines to ensure uninterrupted flight services to India from Dhaka and Chittagong, which can be used by our nationals to return to home.”

However, Students are fighting and protesting against the government job quota system and they want the Sheikh Hasina-led government to abolish this system. Students said that the system is unfair and helps people who support Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, they want to remove this system and implement a merit-based system on its behalf.

But Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina supported the quota system and said that all veterans should be honored for their service, no matter what party they belong to.

Furthermore, the news agency, AFP reported that this conflict between the police and the students caused a total of 101 deaths till now.

On Friday, around 150 Bangladesh police officers were injured and admitted to the hospital. These police officers were injured when they fought "hundreds of thousands" of protesters.

However, the authorities are trying their best to keep the situation under their control.
