Arvind Kejriwal Alleges AAP Candidates Offered ₹15 Crore to Join BJP; Minister Refuses to Leave

AAP Candidates Offered ₹15 Crore: Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has accused the BJP of trying to poach his party candidates ahead of the counting of votes for Delhi tomorrow. Hitting back, the BJP has threatened to take legal action if AAP doesn't drop the allegation.

Mr Kejriwal, who has vowed to return as Chief Minister if his party wins the February 5 elections, has claimed that 16 AAP candidates had received calls yesterday with an offer of Rs 15 crore to change sides.

"In the last two hours, 16 of our candidates have received calls that if they leave AAP and join their party, they will make them ministers and will give Rs. 15 crores to each of them," Mr Kejriwal said in an online post.

Taking to X, Kejriwal wrote, “Some agencies are showing that the abusive party is getting more than 55 seats. In the last two hours, 16 of our candidates have received calls that if they leave AAP and join their party, they will make them ministers and will give Rs. 15 crores to each of them.”

Backing Kejriwal’s allegations, AAP leader Mukesh Ahlawat said he would rather “die” than leave the former Delhi Chief Minister’s side.

“I received a call from this number. He said that their government is being formed, they will make me a minister and also give 15 crore. “Leave AAP and come with us”,” Ahlawat said in a post on X, along with a screenshot of the number from which the call allegedly came, attempting to bribe him to join the BJP.

Ahlawat further stated, “I want to tell them that the respect that Kejriwal ji and the “AAP” party have given me, I will not leave my party until my last breath.”

Voters across 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi cast their votes to elect a new government in on February 5. The counting of votes will take place on February 8.

BJP rejects allegations

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva rejected the allegations, calling them a sign of the AAP's “frustration” over an impending electoral defeat.

“Sanjay Singh should either retract his allegations and tender an apology or face legal action,” Virendra Sachdeva said in a statement.

“He should not forget that his party leader, (former) Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, is already facing a defamation case for making similar false allegations,” the BJP leader said.
