Anuja, Backed by Guneet Monga & Priyanka Chopra, Earns Oscars 2025 Nomination

Oscars 2025 Nomination: At the Oscars 2025, Indian representation will be in with Anuja being backed by Guneet Monga and Priyanka Chopra for nomination in the Best Live Action Short Film category.

Anuja makes it to the Oscars

Nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott.

Anuja is among the five nominees after braving out of the 180 films that qualified in the Best Live Action Short Film category. It is against nominees like Alien, I'm Not a Robot, The Last Ranger, and A Man Who Would Not Remain Silent.

Guneet is nominated for the third time at the Oscars. She had previously had nominations for her short films, The Elephant Whisperers and Period: End of Sentence, which together earned an Oscar victory for Indian cinema.

The interesting thing is that Conan O'Brien is hosting the 2025 Oscars, for the first time in this regard. The 97th annual Oscars will be held at Hollywood's famous Dolby Theatre on March 2.

About Anuja

The story is about a nine-year-old title character who works in a back-alley garment factory with her older sister Palak. The story follows the young protagonist as she emerges with a decision that shapes both her and her family's destinies. Adam J Graves called the movie a heartfelt tribute to the resilience and untold stories of child workers".

The film is directed by Adam J Graves. Streaming on Netflix, the film is produced by Graves's wife, Suchitra Mattai. The film is backed by Priyanka Chopra, Mindy Kaling, and Oscar winner Guneet Monga.

The film is a collaboration between the Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT), a nonprofit that supports working children and street children that the family of Mira Nair founded, and Shine Global, the award-winning production company that produced Oscar-winning films in War/Dance (2007) and Innocente (2012) – and Krushan Naik Films. It stars Ananya Shanbhag, Sajda Pathan, Nagesh Bhosle. The release date of Anuja is yet to be announced.
