Shashi Tharoor’s Wayanad Visit Sparks Controversy: BJP Criticizes Congress MP

The number of dead is increasing with each day passing by, over 360 people have lost their lives to the landslide that happened on July 30. Almost 1300 rescuers are out there in the rescue operation of the victims. Robot drones, Raidars, and Heavy machinery are deployed on duty to the rescue mission. The state government has made plans for the establishment of a new town to rehabilitate the victims.

Shashi Tharoor was involved in the unloading of two trucks in Thiruvananthapuram of relief supplies and made a statement that"Food and so on, is plentifully available in Wayanad but we were able to bring some mattresses, soft, spongy things that you can spread out on the floor and lie on to help people. But all of these are just urgent, immediate responses.

Tharoor said that for the incident long-term planning is necessary because it will be about time for the people to shift from the camps to permanent houses and that rehabilitation is going to be a major problem. The rescue team has recovered 215 bodies and 143 body parts, including 98 males, 87 females, and 30 children which is very unsettling.

Following his visit he posted a video of him unloading a truck along with the caption "Some memories of a memorable day in Wayanad" and the word 'memorable' in his post offended people.

A user commented "Disasters and Deaths are memorable for Shashi Tharoor …. Gazab"

For which Sshi Tharoor replied on a retweet that "For all the trolls: definition of “memorable”: Something that is memorable is worth remembering or likely to be remembered, because it is special or unforgettable. Thats all i meant."

For which a troll replied"Never have heard someone say “ I attended my father’s memorable funeral” “9/11 was a memorable feat of Al Qaeda.” Knowing English and when not to use that knowledge are two different things."
