Saraswati Avahan 2024: Significance

Saraswati Avahana has great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. On this day, people worship Maa Saraswati and enjoy with full of joy and happiness. They worship the Goddess of knowledge, creativity and wisdom. All students, scholars, musicians, singers seek blessings of Maa Saraswati on this day. This is the day when devotees install the idol of Goddess Saraswati in their homes and pandals. It is believed that Maa Saraswati will bestow the devotees who seek her guidance in studies, music and all creative activities.

Saraswati Avahana means to invite the Goddess at home and pandals, install the idol and worship with full devotion. Devotees chant various vedic mantras and sing prayers to please the Goddess. People place their books, musical instrument and other tools in front of the idol and seek blessings of the Goddess.

Saraswati Avahana is performed during the auspicious muhurat and nakshatra, which is moola Nakshatra and the muhurat lasts for five hours and it might vary every year. They choose this special time period to perform all the puja rituals associated with the Goddess and please Maa Saraswati. Some devotees invite priests to perform special puja rituals to invoke the idol.

Saraswati Puja Navratri 2024: Rituals

• Get up early in the morning and take bath.
• Invoke the idol by chanting Vedic Mantras.
• Wash the feet of Maa Saraswati and apply chandan paste, kumkum which is called Alankaram.
• Offer flowers and light a diya with desi ghee in front of the idol.
• Naivedyam or special bhog is offered to Ma Saraswati.
• White sweets and savouries are offered to Goddess.
• Devotees sing bhajans and recite various mantras and prayers of Maa Saraswati.
