Sadiq Khan Secures Third Term as London Mayor: After rising from humble roots to spar with world leaders and bring consequential change to the British capital, Sadiq Khan was re-elected as London mayor on Saturday.

Also, the results of Saturday's election count marked another huge disappointment for Rishi Sunak's Tories.

As a former human rights lawyer brought up in public housing, the 53-year-old Labour party politician easily defeated Conservative challenger Susan Hall.

According to results from nine of the 14 electoral districts, Khan is ahead of his main challenger, the Conservative Party's Susan Hall, by more than 10 percentage points.

In the nearly nine million-person city, he has power over the emergency services, transportation, and planning, overtaking his predecessor Boris Johnson as the longest-serving mayor.

Initially elected in 2016, the Pakistani immigrant's son became the first Muslim mayor of a Western capital.

As mayor, he has been a vocal critic of Brexit, successive Conservative prime ministers, including Johnson, and former US president Donald Trump.

In response to Khan's criticism of Trump's travel ban, the pair engaged in an extraordinary war of words.

Khan was called a "stone-cold loser" and a "national disgrace" by Trump for his poor handling of terrorism.

During Trump's 2018 visit to Britain, a blimp dressed as a baby in a nappy flew over protests in Parliament Square.

London is one of six mayoral contests that could be declared on Saturday, with Labour already winning three.

A potential close race is expected in the West Midlands between Conservative incumbent Andy Street and Labour candidate Richard Parker.
