Meerut Murder Case: In judicial custody for allegedly murdering Saurabh Rajput, his wife and her lover are facing challenges adjusting to life in prison, wherein prison officials claimed that the duo was experiencing drug withdrawal symptoms.
Since last Wednesday, Muskan Rastogi and her lover Sahil Shukla have been confined at Chaudhary Charan Singh district jail here, after a local court issued a 14-day remand of the duo for judicial custody.
The jail sources tell that the duo has displayed extreme signs of distress. "Muskan and Sahil are not able to sleep properly. They are also refusing to eat and drink," a source said.
Some assume that this might be guilt; jail officials assert it is withdrawal from drugs.
Senior Jail Superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma said, "Both Sahil and Muskan have been taking drugs for a long time. Due to this, they are having problems of restlessness and are not even able to sleep at night."
Doctors prescribed their medications and keep a close watch on the team taking care of them, he said. Police investigations proved that the two informal subjects consume drugs and alcohol together.
Sources confirmed that the two accused have not yet had any visitation since being in custody.

Rajput was drugged and subsequently killed with a knife by Muskan and Sahil, who then disposed of his body by severing the parts and sealing them in a drum filled with cement. The duo took a vacation trip to Himachal Pradesh; during the trip, they produced messages from Rajput's phone to deceive his family.
The matter was reported to police on March 18, following which investigation led to their arrest.
In 2016, Muskan and Rajput married against family wishes after a relationship and went on to have a daughter who is now six years old. Police mentioned that Muskan was a childhood friend of Sahil but her connection with him was restored after meeting on a WhatsApp group in 2019.
