The latest figures from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare show that there are currently 6,491 active cases across the country.
In this context, INSACOG has indicated that more than 160 of these active cases are associated with the new XFG variant.

According to the PTI report, INSACOG's data reveals that 163 samples have tested positive for the XFG variant, primarily found in Maharashtra with 89 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (16), Kerala (15), and Gujarat (11).
Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal have also reported cases.
Covid Cases in India near 6,500 mark The Health Ministry's data released on Monday confirms that India has a total of 6,491 active cases.
Following Kerala, which is currently the hardest-hit state in this new wave, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Haryana have all reported significant numbers of active cases.
While the union ministry has not recorded any new deaths in the last 24 hours, a total of 65 fatalities have been reported since January 1, 2025.
According to MoHFW data, these 65 deaths occurred in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Delhi.
