India Foils Missile Attack on 15 Cities, Launches Retaliatory Strikes on Pakistan Defences
On Wednesday, Pakistan escalated the already tense situation with India with targeted attacks on military installations in India.
India Foils Missile Attack on 15 Cities: In an advanced escalation, Pakistan mounted a synchronized assault on 15 Indian cities of Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir on the nights of May 7 and 8. They included Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. The attack used drones and missiles on Indian military installations in Northern and Western India.
India's advanced Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems intercepted and neutralised the threats. The debris of the aerial platforms is currently being collected from various points of impact, which stands as concrete evidence of Pakistan's targeted attacks on Indian cities.
According to ANI news agency, during the night, the Indian Air Force had fired S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defence missile system against some targets moving towards India; and those targets were destroyed as part of the operation. However, there is no official government confirmation to this effect.
The aforesaid aggression followed India's "measured and non-escalatory" response during Operation Sindoor on May 7, wherein it was stated very clearly that India had not and would not have ever targeted any military or civil establishments of Pakistan, its acts being confined to and focused against terror infrastructure. India had also clearly said that any attack on its military establishments would be met with response in self-defense.

The Armed Forces of India, early this morning, carried out precision strikes on Pakistani air defence radar and systems in response to Pakistan's attempts to carry out strikes across such a broad geography. It has been confirmed that an air defence system in and around Lahore was destroyed. The Indian response was within the same operational domain and intensity as that of Pakistan's offensive.
Meanwhile, Pakistan continues with unprovoked artillery and mortar shelling along the Line of Control, especially in the sectors of Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri of Jammu and Kashmir. These attacks caused the death of 16 Indian civilians, including three women and five children. A reaction from India had to take place to stop Pakistani shelling and to save civilian lives, the government stated in a communique.
