IMD Issues Red Alert for Maharashtra, Goa; Rain Expected in Delhi

On Tuesday, July 16, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the states of south, Maharashtra, Konkan Goa and Kerala. Because of the severe downpour, a red alert has been declared by the weather office in some parts of the states. Until the end of the week, light rainfall is anticipated in parts of the Delhi-NCR.

“Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over Konkan & Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat region, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on July 16," Stated by the IMD.

- On Tuesday in Delhi, the weather office estimates that there will be cloudy skies with light downpours. Temperatures will likely drift from 25 to 36 degrees Celsius. There are no alerts given for Delhi as per the IMD’s seven-day estimate.
- The IMD scientist, Dr Naresh Kumar, told ANI, "Delhi-NCR will receive light rain in the coming days. There is no alert for Delhi". The isolated rain is probably going to cause traffic congestion and inconvenience for commuters.

- A red alert was declared by the IMD for Raigad and an orange warning for Sindhudurg, Thane, Palghar, Pune, Satar, Mumbai, Ratnagiri, and Kolhapur in Maharashtra for Tuesday. The weather organisation gave a red alert in Kerala for Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts and an orange alert for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts.
- For the south interior and coastal regions in Karnataka, the MeT department gave a red alert for July 16. Many villages, such as Araga, Chendia, Iduru, and Toduru, which are situated in Uttara Kannada’s Karwar taluk, were affected by floods caused by severe downpours on Monday.
- Across India, many states have been experiencing severe downpours in the past few days, because of the floods and the loss of lives and property.
- The IMD indicated that there will be delayed rain in parts of Odisha because of a low-pressure region over the Bay of Bengal. On July 19, one more expected low-pressure region was proactively sharpened. On July 17, heavy downpours are estimated but no particular warnings are given for July 16.
- On Tuesday, severe rainfall is predicted by the weather department, in particular parts across Valsad, Chhota Udepur, Surat, Navsari, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath districts. After the next five days, the IMD also declared heavy rainfall across many districts of Gujrat.
