Gopi Puthran on Mandala Murders’ Netflix Triumph: Mandala Murders is one of the most sustainable hits of Netflix India so far in 2025. The crime thriller still remains at the top as the most-watched Indian series as the platform and ranks 7th amongst last week among the most watched TV shows on Netflix globally three weeks after its release on July 25.
Creator of the show Gopi Puthran shares the opinion that the connection with the cultural basis and the mythical reality of India made the show successful. The film takes place in a small town, imagined into existence, and utilizes the mix of local myths and mystery, which, according to Puthran, is a topic that actually strikes a chord among people at home and overseas.
“India is a country that is deeply connected and awed by its roots. Myths are embedded deep within our DNA because of the stories that were handed down over generations by our elders, which is why we instantly connect to content with such tonality," Puthran explained. “What is really heartening to see is how Mandala Murders has connected with people’s psyche due to this. Partnering with Netflix, with its incredible reach, has enabled the series to be sampled by viewers who want content laced with myths and mysteries of India."
Puthran considers the global popularity of the show is due to the fact that its audience is interested in Indian details extracted through mythical undercurrents of the national culture which are presented honestly as Puthran states. He mentions smaller towns and cities in India adopting the show story-telling too, thus indicating the fact that authenticity can cut across the board.
