Al-Hilal Shocks the World as Manchester City’s Trophyless Streak Continues

Al-Hilal was the second place at Al-Hilal points table of Saudi Pro League, which beat Manchester City in a match that had neck to neck race on 1st July. The FIFA Club World Cup in which 32 teams of diverse FIFA confederations fight to win the championship, Al-Hilal made their points in this round that they are not just a team playing in the Saudi league.

The question that we can see rising up in the global level of football is that “Can Saudi teams compete with European elites?”

The picture of Saudi Football was not brought on the international level before Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr. Sponsorships or broadcasting was not provided. This is Eurocentric football that Ronaldo diverted to play in the Saudi league. Then came, Neymar Jr. He played in Al-Hilal. However, Ronaldo was the fad setter.

Recently, the Al-Hilal is signing Simone Inzaghi who was once a manager of Inter Milan. Inter Milan; the second placed team of the UEFA Champions league were also defeated at the FIFA club world cup.

Manchester city players, Bernado Silva, who also brought the Nations League trophy last month curled the first goal of the match in minute 9 itself. However, in the second half time, Manchester city lost the lead and Marcos Leonardo of Al-Hilal equalized in the match.

The result of the game was 2-2 and the match had to go into Extra time. At the 94th minute Ruben Neves scored a goal on the behalf of Al-Hilal, immediately followed by Phil Foden, a goal of Manchester City at 104th minute. The goal that actually saw Al-hilal step up to the plate was that of the 113th minute by Marcos Leonardo. Yassine Bounou, the goalkeeper of Al-Hilal, recorded some amazing saves during the game. He is indeed a Godsend to the group. He turned Manchester City players down to ensure their efforts do not turn into goals.

The Al-Hilal team was not supposed to send a team like Manchester City packing considering that the team had just won the Treble in the season. Ballon d'Or winner Rodri did not appear to be at his best at this match.

Al-Hilal are putting to rest the mockery of kicking a ball around solely to kick a ball around and have assembled a good team and a good manager. It would be very interesting to see Al-Hilal's next matches. Will they maintain their winning streak? Or will they take their win to their heads and lose their way?
