Bumrah Is India’s Problem”: Ben Stokes Shuts Down Hype Before 2nd Test | IND vs ENG 2025

"Bumrah Is India’s Problem”: When India sit down to select the team for the second Test at Edgbaston on Wednesday, everyone is to watch what the team management will do after the disappointing loss in Leeds. How to get 20 wickets on another bat friendly pitch and still create depth in the batting line-up.

Seeing how the pacers are likely to be changed because Jasprit Bumrah might take a break as a part of a planned approach to the workload, the change in the pace attack should follow.

The bowling unit can be headed by Mohammed Siraj, with the has-been Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna in the fray. Bumrah, India incisive bowler in the opening Test, will also not be in the team and this means these three bowlers will have even more pressure to be more consistent with their lengths.

The Edgbaston pitch is green on top but with a dry surface underneath and this implies that spinners will eventually work their charm. This time India are likely to go in with two spinners.

Ravindra Jadeja is one definite starter and with Washington Sundar offering control and batting reserves, the management may again ignore the attacking bent that India had craved sorely in Leeds in Kuldeep Yadav.

When Kuldeep is included, however, this will mark a change to conservative approach. Nitish Reddy could also be given a nod in the all-rounder spot, which had no success at Headingley with Shardul Thakur.

Although some may find dropping Thakur a bit short after only one match, India require better control and stable batting line-up in the lower order.

The batting nucleus has not changed, and that is Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top, KL Rahul next, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant. The team may need Ajinkya Rahane to come back, especially after watching Karun Nair sitting out to serve the edgbaston test as he made his comeback in the Leeds test.

Although the former has recorded minor scores in the first Test, Sai Sudharsan is tipped to remain in his position and India may continue working with their long-term prospects.

England Confirmed XI vs India: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), Jamie Smith (WK), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.

India's predicted XI vs England: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (captain), Rishabh Pant (wk, vc), Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep.
