According to Madhya Pradesh Minister and BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, Akshay Bam joined the BJP shortly after withdrawing his nomination from Indore.
Vijayvargiya wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "We welcome Akshay Kanti Bam Ji Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Indore into the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National BJP President JP Nadda, and Indore State BJP President VD Sharma."
For the Indore Lok Sabha seat, where elections will be held on May 13, the Congress fielded Bamb against BJP MP Shankar Lalwani.
On Monday, the Congress said there is a "threat to democracy" and questioned whether a free and fair election can take place when candidate after candidate is intimidated by the Election Commission.
According to Congress leader Subhashini Sharad Yadav, Bamb retracted his nomination out of fear.
The participation of all parties and people from different communities is essential to a healthy democracy."
"It happened in Surat, as well as Indore, but the party is not weak. It is evident how democracy is being murdered," she said.
According to ANI, the Congress candidate had earlier requested a ticket from Indore's assembly constituency number 4.

Indore will go to polls in the fourth phase of general elections, on May 13. The incumbent Member of Parliament Shankar Lalwani has been fielded as the BJP's candidate for the Indore seat.
According to ANI, the Congress candidate had asked for a ticket from assembly constituency number 4 of Indore but did not receive one.

A total of 25.13 lakh voters are registered in Indore, the largest constituency in the state.
