Actor Shefali Jariwala May Have Died Due to Low Blood Pressure, Suspect Doctors

Actor Shefali Jariwala May Have Died Due to Low Blood Pressure: Actor-model Shefali Jariwala, who rose to fame with the remix music video Kaanta Laga in 2002, passed away on Friday (June 27) at 42. Her sudden death has left the entertainment industry in shock.

Shefali Jariwala, who was diagnosed with epilepsy at 15, was also seen in a small role as the 'Kaanta Laga Girl' in the 2004 film Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. She was also a part of reality TV shows Nach Baliye 5 and Nach Baliye 7 with her actor-husband Parag Tyagi. Shefali Jariwala was also a contestant on Bigg Boss 13.

According to the police, the 42-year-old actor collapsed at her residence on Friday night. Her husband, TV actor Parag Tyagi, rushed her to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Andheri, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Preliminary findings suggested she might have had a cardiac arrest. Her body was later taken to R.N. Cooper Hospital, Juhu, for post-mortem.

The police said the doctors at Cooper Hospital suspect the cause of Shefali Jariwala’s death was a sudden drop in her blood pressure.

The police said the actor was observing a fast on Sunday for Satyanarayan Pooja at their residence. Her husband told the police she collapsed after eating food that was prepared a day before.

According to doctors, a sudden drop in blood pressure can occur for any reason, which means that vital organs may not be getting enough blood flow. “A sudden and steep drop in blood pressure, known medically as severe hypotension, can become a life-threatening emergency. Although a blood pressure reading below 90/60 mm Hg isn’t always dangerous on its own, a rapid and dramatic decline can trigger serious health risks, including fatal outcomes,” Dr Abhijit Khadtare, cardiologist at Ruby Hall Clinic, told.

Dr Khadtare said severely low blood pressure results in organ dysfunction due to lack of blood flow. “When blood pressure falls too quickly, it reduces the flow of oxygen-rich blood to critical organs such as the brain, heart, and kidneys. This can result in rapid organ dysfunction and, if not addressed immediately, may lead to a life-threatening condition called shock. Shock occurs when the circulatory system fails to deliver adequate oxygen and nutrients to the body’s tissues and organs, potentially causing them to shut down.”

The police have recorded statements of the actor’s husband and family members. While collecting panchnama from her residence, the police found two boxes containing anti-ageing tablets, skin glow tablets, and vitamin tablets. The actor’s family said she was taking the tablets without a doctor’s consultation, but it never caused any problem to her, said a police officer.

“No foul play is suspected yet. We are waiting for the post-mortem report,” said the officer.

Jariwala’s family performed her last rites as the police registered a case of Accidental Death (ADR).
