“Indian Railways May Prepare Reservation Chart 8 Hours Before Train Departure”

Indian Railways May Prepare Reservation: Indian Railways is planning to revamp its ticketing and reservation process by preparing train charts 8 hours before the train departs, among other things. The Railway Ministry has also increased the maximum waiting list quota for AC classes from 25% to 60% of the coach capacity.
“However, for trains departing before 1400 hours (2 p.m.), the chart will be prepared the previous day at 2100 hours (9 p.m.) itself,” a senior official from the Railway Ministry said. Currently, the chart is prepared four hours prior to the departure of a train.
Currently, the reservation chart is prepared 4 hours before the train departs, which leads to uncertainty for passengers with waitlist tickets.

Passengers will get the first update on waitlist status well in advance. It will benefit passengers travelling from remote locations or the suburbs of major cities for long-distance trains. It will also give more time to make alternative arrangements if the wait list is not confirmed.
Meanwhile, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the upgradation of the passenger reservation system on Sunday. The project has been going on for the last few months by CRIS
Along with charting revision, Indian Railways is working on a complete overhaul of its Passenger Reservation System (PRS) which will be rolled out by December.
Once launched the new system will:
- Support 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute (5X current capacity)
- Handle 40 lakh ticket enquiries per minute (10X current)
- Be multilingual and user friendly
- Allow users to select seat preferences and view fare calendars
- The PRS upgrade is being developed by CRIS and will make ticket booking much faster and smoother across India.
From July 1, the IRCTC website and app will make user authentication mandatory for Tatkal ticket bookings. This will help in curbing misuse and ensure fair access to high-demand Tatkal quotas.
