The electric buses are taken on a hired basis by the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking.
The bus driver Vinod Aabaji Rankhambe, 39 years old, and the conductor Avinash Vikramrao Gite have been arrested by the police under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Act, NDTV reported. The official said that further inquiry into the matter is ongoing.
Kurla bus accident
Just a few days ago, a BEST bus crashed into seven people, killing them all. It left 42 others suffering serious injuries along SG Barve Marg in Kurla west. In a collision with 30 to 40 other vehicles, it progressed over more than 100 meters before ramming into the foundation wall of the Solomon Building, as BMC said.
Police nabbed the 54-year-old Mark Sanjay, a driver of the BEST bus, who lost control on the wheels as it plied between Kurla station and Sakinaka on A322.

This bus is a 12-metre long electric vehicle manufactured at Hyderabad by Olectra Greentech that BEST has taken on a wet lease. More later told police that he was not comfortable operating automatic transmission of the electric bus, which he assigned on December 1.
Two days later, Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) shared a draft study of the case with the police and declared that there was no technical fault in the bus.
They too verified that Sanjay More was inadequately trained for handling the electric bus, having undergone only three training rounds of an e-bus run by the wet lease contractor, contrary to BEST's internal SOP which said that a driver's conversion from a manual to an e-bus is supplemented with six weeks of refresher training.
Unfortunately, it led to the accident that killed seven people because More was somehow not comfortable.
Interestingly, BEST has just resumed services around the Kurla west area on Fridays.
