10 Killed as Car Carrying Maha Kumbh Devotees Collides with Bus on Prayagraj-Mirzapur Highway
At least 10 people, all of whom were devotees from Chhattisgarh headed towards the Maha Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, died after their Bolero car collided with a bus on the Mirzapur-Prayagraj highway, police said.

The twin collision, which occurred around midnight, also injured 19 others.
The car was carrying the devotees from Chhattisgarh to Maha Kumbh when the accident took place late on Friday night on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway under PS Meja.
The devotees who died while travelling in the car belonged to Chhattisgarh's Korba. They were en route to the Kumbh to take a holy dip at the Sangam. The bus also comprised pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh at the time of the accident.

"The bodies have been taken to Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital for post-mortem. Further process is still going on," DCP Yamunanagar, Vivek Chandra Yadav, said.
The accident is suspected to have occurred when the Bolero's driver dozed off and lost control of the vehicle.
Taking cognisance of the accident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He has directed officials to expedite relief work and ensure proper treatment of the injured.
The CM also wished for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries in the car-bus collision.

AK Tiwari, CMO of Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital confirmed that all those travelling in the Bolero died in the accident.

"An unfortunate incident happened in Prayagraj when a bus and Bolero collided. All those sitting in the Bolero died in the accident ... All the victims were coming to Prayagraj from Chhattisgarh, and the bus was going from Prayagraj to Raigarh," he said.
Earlier this week, three people died after a bus carrying 57 Maha Kumbh pilgrims rammed into a truck on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan's Kota. The pilgrims were returning to Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur after attending the Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13.
Sources said that the collision was so powerful that gas cutters had to be used to extricate the bodies of the deceased from the badly mangled jeep.
Two deceased were identified, as Ishwari Prasad Jaiwal and Somenath, both residents of Korba, Chhattisgarh, police said, adding that efforts were on to identify the rest.
