Main Accused Monojit Mishra in Kolkata Rape Case a ‘History‑Sheeter’
Monojit Mishra has chargesheeted in several criminal cases in various police stations in the city of Kolkata like Kalighat, Kasba and Alipore.

Kolkata Police have come up with Monojit Mishra, the key suspect in the said gangrape of a 24 year old girl who studies law in South Calcutta law college had a criminal record and had several previous charges against him.
Mishra has allegedly chargedheeted on offences such as harassing women, violence, vandalism and burglary.
According to the police, he has several cases pending in the Kalighat, Kasba, Alipore, Haridevpur and Tollygunge police stations.
“Monojit Mishra is a history-sheeter with several cases and chargesheets against him in the Kolkata Police jurisdiction,” The Telegraph quoted a senior officer as saying.

Mishra and two others have been arrested by the police under the charges of sexually assaulting a first-year law student on the college campus in June 25. The time of the crime was between 7.30-10.50 PM when the crime was committed in the room of a security guard.
Mishra is said to have constantly harassed her to marry him and when she declined to do so, he threatened to kill her boyfriend and implicate her parents on false allegations.
Mishra age 31 is a practising criminal lawyer in the Alipore court. He also posts himself on social media as a former leader of the Trinamool Congress student wing (TMC) at the law college.
Even when he attended the college four years ago, he is supposed to have been involved with the college on a casual basis before recently. Trinamool Congress has since distanced itself with him.
According to The Telegraph report, citing police records, in 2019, Mishra was accused of tearing the clothes of one woman inside the South Calcutta Law College over which a chargesheet was filed.
The theft happened the same year in fact, on New Year Eve when he stole a gold chain, perfume, a music system and spectacles out of the house of a friend in Haridevpur. In that case, the FIR had been registered during the first week of January, 2020 and he had been chargesheeted by the police.

Individually, The Times of India had also reported in the year 2017 that Mishra had been alleged of destroying the office of the principal, but there was no police case then.
In a bid to investigate the case a five-member special investigation team (SIT) led by a police officer of the rank assistant commissioner has been appointed. There has been an SIT which is investigating the suspected offence. A senior police officer said it would begin its investigation straight away.
Four persons have been arrested by the police, Mishra being the prime accused, Zaib Ahmed (19) and Pramit Mukherjee (20) who are students in the college and Pinaki Banerjee, the security guard.
Police have said that a medical checkup at a government hospital has backed the claims of the woman. "There is evidence of forceful penetration, bite marks and nail scratches on her body," the officer added.
A senior officer said investigators found an incriminating video clip in one of the accused mobile phones, this time we are talking of slightly over a minute and 30 seconds. “We have found a video clip... which corroborates the statements made by the victim in her complaint,” the officer said.
In the complaint filed by the survivor, she claimed that she was detained, intimidated, and raped even when she was at the time of resisting an offer of marriage by Mishra.
