Yashpal Sharma, India's 1983 World Cup hero, died of a heart attack.
Yashpal Sharma, India's 1983 World Cup hero, died on Tuesday after having a heart arrest . He was respected for being a brave middle-order batsman at the pinnacle of his abilities.

He was 66 years old and leaves behind a wife, two children, and a son. Yashpal fell at home after returning from his morning walk, according to sources. Yashpal scored 1606 runs in 37 Tests and 883 runs in 42 ODIs throughout his international career. In addition, he took one wicket in each of the two formats.
He was recognized for his bravery, and his stroke-filled half-century against England in the 1983 World Cup semifinal at Old Trafford will live on in the public mind. During the early 2000s, he was also a national selector.
Dilip Vengsarkar, a former India captain, expressed astonishment at his teammate's death. The 1983 team had gotten together on the sidelines of a book launch a few weeks ago.
“ He informed me that I had lost weight on the day we met. We had a fantastic time reuniting. "I remember playing the powerful West Indies with those fast bowlers in the first game of the 1983 World Cup, and he set the agenda, and we won that game," said former teammate Kirti Azad.
"He was outstanding once again in the semifinal, hitting Bob Willis for a six. People nowadays claim (Ravindra) Jadeja hits stumps on a regular basis, but Yashpal did as well. He was a dynamo on the field, constantly hitting stumps," he said.
“Shocked and deeply pained by the demise of Yashpal Sharma Ji. Have fond memories of watching him bat during the 1983 World Cup. His contribution to Indian cricket shall always be remembered. My sincere condolences to the entire Sharma family.” Sachin Tendulkar tweeted.
“So sorry to hear about #YashpalSharma Paaji 's passing away, one of the heroes of our 1983 WC win. Heartfelt condolences. Om Shanti” tweeted Virender Sehwag.
