WTC Points Table: Australia qualifies for WTC final, India will be able to reach only like this

The Indian team suffered a major setback on Friday when they suffered a 9-wicket defeat at the hands of Australia on the third day of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played in Indore. This has dealt a severe blow to the Indian team's hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship final. Steve Smith-led Australia have sealed their place in the finals by registering their 11th win in the 2021-23 WTC cycle. Meanwhile, the Indian team has suffered a huge loss in percentage. He had 64.06 percent which has come down to 60.29 after the defeat. This was the fifth defeat of the Indian team in 17 matches in the 2021-23 cycle.

If the Indian team has to qualify for the WTC final, then the only way left for them is to win the fourth Test to be played in Ahmedabad from March 9. Sri Lanka is the only team in contention to make it to the WTC final to be held at The Oval in England. If the Indian team registers a win in Ahmedabad, then its percentage will be 62.5. This is enough to avert the Sri Lankan threat.

Sri Lanka has to play a two-match Test series on New Zealand tour. If the Sri Lankan team wins both the matches, it will have 61.11 percent. However, if the Indian team defeats Australia in Ahmedabad, it will have 135 points with 62.5 percent. If the match in Ahmedabad ends in a draw or India loses, then India will have 123 points with 56.94 per cent.
