Wrong warning issued for smoke in Indigo aircraft, now DGCA will investigate

An IndiGo airline's Delhi-Kolkata flight on Sunday raised an unexplained siren warning of smoke from the cargo hold. The incident happened before the plane landed at the airport. IndiGo said in a statement on Sunday, "After landing at Kolkata airport, the Airbus aircraft was tested and the warning was found to be incorrect." It said necessary improvements are being made to the smoke detection system. In the last few months, many incidents of technical glitches in the aircraft of different airlines have come to the fore.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked to investigate the matter. A senior official said that the DGCA will investigate the incident. The incident took place on flight 6E-2513 (VT-IJA) carrying 165 passengers and six crew members. Officials said the plane was supposed to land at the Kolkata airport at 10.45 am but received a smoke warning at around 10.20 am. The pilot then contacted the Air Traffic Control Service (ATC) and arrangements were made for the aircraft to land on priority. Necessary preparations were made to deal with any emergency.

Earlier on August 15, airline IndiGo's Mangaluru-Mumbai flight was delayed by about six hours when a female passenger saw a male co-traveller exchanging suspicious messages with someone. Sources had said that on August 15, when passengers were boarding the plane at Mangaluru airport, a female passenger looked at the mobile phone of a male co-passenger while he was exchanging messages with someone. According to sources, the female passenger noticed that the male co-traveller was once addressed as "bomber" in the exchange of messages.
