"There has been an accident on a Precision Air plane, which crashed into the water about 100 meters from the airport," regional police commander William Mwampaghale told reporters at Bukoba airport. There was no immediate information on the number of passengers on board, but local media reports said there were about 49 people on board the flight from the financial capital Dar es Salaam to the lakeside city.

"The situation is under control as security teams are working hard to rescue the people," Mwampaghale said. Meanwhile, Precision Air, Tanzania's largest private airline, issued a brief statement confirming the accident. "Rescue teams have been dispatched to the scene and more information will be released in two hours," the airline said.

The Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) said the plane had taken off from the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam. He fell into Lake Victoria this morning due to a storm and heavy rain. TBC said rescue boats were deployed and emergency workers were working to rescue other passengers trapped on the plane.
