Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitchko informed about the explosion in Shevchenko in the heart of Kyiv. There are many government offices in this area. Ukrainian lawmaker Lesia Vasilenko tweeted a photo of the explosion near the main building of the Kyiv National University in central Kyiv.

Kyiv emergency services spokeswoman Svitlana Vodolaga told The Associated Press (AP) that there were casualties and rescuers were working at various sites. AP journalists heard the explosions and they were apparently caused by a missile attack. Earlier, there was an attack in Kyiv in June. Earlier attacks had targeted the outskirts of Kyiv, but this time several sites in the heart of the city were targeted. Ukrainian media also reported explosions in Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnitsky, Zhytomyr and Kropivnitsky, among many other places.
