Banned Jamaat-e-Islami has once again started its activities in the valley and started collecting donations. In this connection, on Monday, a Jamaat-e-Islami activist was arrested in Baramulla, North Kashmir, with the amount of Rs 16,000 collected from the people. Three receipt books of Jamaat-e-Islami, a mobile phone, bank passbook and three checkbooks have also been recovered from him.
Jamaat-e-Islami was banned in the year 2019. The terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen was once called the military side of Jamaat-e-Islami. Most of the Hizb cadre even today comes from the background of Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat-e-Islami's role in separatism and terrorism in Kashmir has been prominent.
A police spokesman said that in Baramulla and its adjoining areas, donations were being collected from people by Jamaat-e-Islami for the past few days. Some people informed the police and on the basis of that, today the police along with the 46 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army put up a naka near the main square of Baramulla.
