With S-400 in the Backdrop, PM Modi’s Salute at Adampur Air Base Dismisses Pakistan’s Claims

PM Modi’s Salute at Adampur Air Base: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi countered Pakistan's assertions that it had attacked the Adampur Air Force Base in Punjab and “destroyed" the S-400 air defence system during the follow-up to Operation Sindoor, India’s response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

In a number of the photos PM Modi shared from his visit to the Adampur Air Base, he was saluting, with the S-400 air defence system appearing in the problematic background.

As PM Modi shared the photos, he mentioned meeting the “brave air warriors and soldiers” at the air base, which was a visible rebuttal to Pakistan's claims. Pakistan's military had earlier dismissed states' claims to strike the base as “disinformation."

As PM Modi engaged with these air warriors and soldiers at the air base, there were chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram" in the air, just days following India's decisive achievements in Operation Sindoor.

In a post on X, Modi said, “Earlier this morning, I went to AFS Adampur and met our brave air warriors and soldiers. It was a very special experience to be with those who epitomise courage, determination and fearlessness. India is eternally grateful to our armed forces for everything they do for our nation.”

During the visit, PM Modi was briefed by Indian Air Force personnel on the state of situational awareness and developments at the air base.

A day before, in his national address on Operation Sindoor, Modi stated that, “India will not differentiate between the government sponsoring terrorism and the masterminds of terrorism.”

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, on May 10, rejected Pakistan’s claim that it had destroyed India’s S-400 missile base as “completely false.”

He added, “PM @narendramodi Ji interacted with our brave Jawans. Adampur Air Base, Punjab.”

She highlighted several false attempts by Pakistan to spread misinformation, including claiming that it had destroyed a BrahMos missile installation.

A senior Indian military officer similarly rejected reports that hypersonic missiles fired from Pakistan’s JF-17 jets had destroyed the S-400 system in Adampur. The Indian Air Force spokesman said the reports — from Pakistan’s state-owned PTV and subsequently picked up by China’s Global Times and Xinhua — were not credible.

The Indian government initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7 following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed twenty-six tourists. The operation targetedle thterrorist campsandb11military airbases in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. More than a hundred terrorists were neutralized in the midnight coordinated strikes — by land, air, and sea — last Friday, conducted using precision and restraint to avoid collateral damage and civilian casualties.

While both nations agreed to de-escalate military actions on May 10, India pointed out that it has only suspended operations and that India future military responses will depend on Pakistan’s actions.
