Windshield of SpiceJet's Gujarat-Mumbai flight cracked
This is the third safety-related concern in the SpiceJet aircraft in less than three weeks. All incidents have been brought to the notice of the regulator.
The upper windshield of a SpiceJet aircraft flying from Kandal in Gujarat to Mumbai developed a crack on Tuesday, due to which the plane had to make a priority landing. This is the second incident of the day of 'disruption' in the SpiceJet aircraft. A statement from the airline said that all passengers and crew members are safe. A statement from the airline said, "During the cruise at FL 230, the windshield on the P2 side broke the outerpane. During this the pressure was normal.Priority landing was done and the plane landed safely in Mumbai.".
This is the third safety-related concern in the SpiceJet aircraft in less than three weeks. All incidents have been brought to the notice of the regulator. Other incidents were related to door warnings, bird collisions, oil leakage from the engine etc. Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conducted a comprehensive safety audit of SpiceJet aircraft only last month, inspecting it on a case by case basis.
It is worth noting that earlier today, a SpiceJet plane flying from Delhi to Dubai had to divert towards Karachi due to a fault in the indicator light. According to the airline, the passengers landed safely after the plane landed in Karachi, during which no emergency was declared. An airline spokesperson had said, "Flight SG-11 (Delhi-Dubai) of SpiceJet's B737 aircraft was diverted towards Karachi on 5 July 2022 due to a fault in the indicator light. The aircraft landed safely in Karachi and the passengers Evacuated safely. During this time no emergency was declared and the plane made a normal landing. There were no reports of pre-flight failure on the plane."
