Will the BJP led MCDs demolish 80% of Delhi, asks Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on anti-encroachment drives

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in a digital press conference earlier today mentioned, "Bulldozers are being run in many places in Delhi and it is being said that bulldozers will be run for the next several months. They (the BJP-led MCD) are saying that as much illegal encroachment is there, it will be removed. We ourselves are also against encroachment, we do not want illegal buildings to be built or occupied, but Delhi was not built in a planned manner. If more than 80% of Delhi will come under encroachment or illegal construction, then the question arises, will 80 percent of Delhi be broken?"

He further added, "The second thing is that the way the encroachment is being removed, there is no paper in it, nor is anyone being given a chance. They reach with bulldozers and start breaking into anyone's house and shop. It's not right, the way it's being removed".

He quoted, "Even we're against encroachment but we oppose the way it's being done. They (BJP) are planning to demolish all unauthorized colonies, and slums & have a list of partial encroachments. This would make about 63 lakh people homeless...bulldozing won't be tolerated."

"Their term is going to end on May 18, so does he have the moral power to take such a big decision. You conduct municipal elections and the new municipal corporation that will be formed will decide. We assure the people of Delhi that we will solve this problem of encroachment and illegally built Delhi. Will make the raw colony clean, regularize, and make sure. The raw colony will be developed into a good colony. We are building houses for the slum dwellers and we will give them a life of respect. If someone has made such a construction in which people are obstructed, then people will be given a chance to remove it. If you explain to people, they remove themselves, but why are you driving a bulldozer?", he further added.
