Just 24 days after the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, on the 23rd of June 2022, his song, namely YSL was released on YouTube, which was banned after a complaint by the Central Government.

Just 24 days after the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, on the 23rd of June 2022, his song, namely YSL was released on YouTube. Within 72 hours of its release, this song was viewed by more than 27 million people on YouTube. However, after this, YouTube removed the song 'SYL' from its platform after getting a legal complaint from the central government.
Moosewala's song 'SYL' was released on YouTube on 23 June 2022, which promulgates about returning Punjabi history and identity. Along with this, Moosewala also talks about returning to Chandigarh, Haryana, and Himachal in the song. They say forget water, we will not give a drop until we give our sovereignty.
The same song further mentions the incident of the 1990 Sutlej-Yamuna canal, in which two engineers were killed. In this song, reportedly Balwinder Singh Jatana, the killer of both the engineers, was praised.
Along with this, the Sikh flags hoisted on the Red Fort on 26 January 2021 during the farmers' movement, the 1984 Sikh riots, Sikh prisoners of Punjab, and pro-Khalistan terrorists were also talked about in this song. This is the reason why this song started going viral only after its release. Later, on the instructions of the Central Government, the video of this song has been removed from YouTube.
Even after the separation of Haryana from Punjab, there has been an agreement between the two states regarding the Sutlej-Yamuna link canal. But, on March 24, 1976, when the Central Government issued a notification to give 35 crore acre-feet of water to Haryana out of 7.2 MAF of Punjab's 72 crore acre-feet, there was a ruckus. The farmers of Punjab came out on the road against this decision of the government.
As per a report by The Indian Express, on the removal of Sidhu Moosewala's song, a YouTube spokesperson said that this song has been removed after a legal complaint made by the government. He said that when governments make complaints on a video by following a certain legal process, that video is reviewed. During this, videos that break community guidelines are removed. Although YouTube has not yet publicly given any reason behind the removal of Moosewala's song.
