When Will Maharashtra’s New CM Be Announced? BJP Leaders Say ‘No Hurry’
The BJP is taking a measured approach in finalizing the Chief Minister from Maharashtra and will announce it only after forming the cabinet.

When Will Maharashtra’s New CM Be Announced: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) decides to take its time before deciding upon its candidate for the Chief Ministership of Maharashtra after focusing on finalizing the portfolios for the newly formed government, as per news agency PTI, quoting internal sources of the party. Reports further mention that the party will take a decision on who leads the state after this internal coalition discussion completes about cabinet formation.
Earlier on Tuesday, Maharashtra Governor asked outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to continue in a caretaker capacity due to the resignation. There is no consensus among the allies yet even after a thumping victory of the BJP-Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) over the elections held in the state assembly.

"The central leadership is in no hurry to name a candidate for the chief minister's post," the leader added.
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance won a grand victory in these assembly polls, winning 230 (BJP-132, Shiv Sena-57, NCP-41) out of a total of 288 seats in the Maharashtra assembly.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) received a major blow and was rendered completely impotent. Shiv Sena-UBT led by Uddhav Thackeray could win only 20 seats; Congress won 16, while the NCP (SCP) led by Sharad Pawar managed to win just 10.
Even though Devendra Fadnavis, the former chief minister, is the strong candidate for the position, Shiv Sena leaders have expressed their desire to see Eknath Shinde continue as chief minister. The Nationalist Congress Party of Ajit Pawar has also not ruled out the claim of Fadnavis.
The cautious approach of the BJP is borne out of earlier local rivalries wherein some lawmakers, such as Mahendra Thorave from Raigad district, are posing opposition to certain appointments, owing to old disputes. Such has become a cautious stance with an assurance that every coalition member would be in unison before advancing to the formation of a state government.
The maximum number of ministers in a Maharashtra cabinet can be 43, as there are 288 members in the assembly. In terms of offices-both cabinet and junior-36 districts have to lean towards representation for a chief minister.
"With the ongoing parliamentary session, the central leadership is stretched thin, holding meetings with both Maharashtra BJP leaders and allies while also handling floor management in Parliament," a party leader noted.
As for the announcement of the chief minister candidate, the source said, "The BJP central body will appoint an observer or a team of observers who will visit Mumbai. They will meet the MLAs and senior party functionaries to finalise the cabinet formula. Once that is done, they will announce the party's choice for the leader of the legislative wing."
