Villas, Flats, Hotels & Thailand Wedding: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has uncovered a trove of luxury properties and assets allegedly belonging to a Telangana irrigation department engineer, sparking a disproportionate assets case. Nune Sridhar, an executive engineer, is under scrutiny after raids at 13 locations revealed holdings worth crores, far exceeding his known income.

Sridhar, a part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, which is under probe over financial irregularities, is being questioned by ACB officials over disproportionate assets and wealth.

Posted in the CAD Division 8 of the irrigation department at the SSRSP camp in Choppadandi, Karimnagar, Sridhar owns a four-storey building in Malakpet, a 4500 square feet flat in SKY HIGH, a premium gated community in Shaikpet, a luxury villa in Urjit gated enclave, Tellapur, a G+3 building in Warangal, and business stakes in multiple hotels in Karimnagar. Additionally, he has spent crores on his son’s destination wedding in Thailand.

According to a press note issued by ACB, searches unveiled properties owned by the accused: One villa in Tellapur, one flat in Shaikpet, 3 flats in Karimnagar, commercial space at Ameerpet, one independent building in Hyderabad, another in Warangal, and one more in Karimnagar.

16 acres of agricultural land, 19 prime residential plots in Hyderabad, Warangal and Karimnagar, two four-wheelers, gold ornaments and substantial bank deposits were also unearthed as part of assets.

The ACB suspects the amassed properties and wealth to have been acquired through unlawful means in the course of his service. The official value ascertained of these assets is less than the market value.

The searches revealed that the officer acquired these movable and immovable properties by abusing his official position. The searches are still ongoing. The market value is expected to be much higher than the official value.

A report by the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement (DG, V&E) cited “serious lapses in execution”, leading to structural failure and financial losses. The Commission has urged charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Dam Safety Act and Indian Penal Code against 17 officials, including former Engineer-in-Chief Cheeti Muralidhar and contracting firm L&T-PES (JV).

The firm stands accused of improperly executing secant piles and violating protocols, causing underground cavities that destabilised the structure. Recovery proceedings have also been advised to reclaim costs for repairs.

Sridhar was arrested on Wednesday and sent to judicial remand. Further investigation is underway.
